About Us

A brief history:

Dean and I met in 1999 at a Harley group meeting, mostly because of our interest in riding longer days. But we still didn’t know a thing about each other when we took off on our first ride together April 1, 2000. Yes, April Fool’s Day; don’t think the irony has escaped us. We were trying to earn an Iron Butt Association certification – a Bun Burner Gold -  1500 miles in 24 hours. To this day, it was the hardest ride I’ve ever done, mostly because of our complete unpreparedness but we had a lot of fun and quickly started planning other rides together.
Since that time we’ve ridden over 30,000 miles together and I consider it one of my greatest accomplishments that we still speak to each other. Seriously, we couldn’t be more different. As I’ve written before Dean is super organized and I fly by the seat of my pants. Dean is cool, calm and collected and I might be a little excitable. Dean is extremely directionally impaired and I am pretty sure where I am and which way I need to ride at all times. I am tall and Dean is not. I am old but Dean is ancient.  One thing we have in common is that we pretty much laugh at everything, mostly ourselves. Yup, we make an interesting team. Fortunately for us, our wonderful spouses are quite supportive of our foolishness, and offer great support from the comfort of home.
Even as our friendship has endured, our motorcycles of choice have evolved. First we were both on American Iron, Harley dressers. After the 2001 Iron Butt Rally, I bought a Honda Gold Wing and Dean switched to a Yamaha FJR 1300. And now because we want to explore some dirt roads, we both bought Suzuki Vstroms, me on the 650ABS and Dean on the 1000.
It’s an odd relationship to be sure, but so far, so good!

All of this wouldn't be possible without the love and support from our spouses.
