Today's Blog

one thing I have never been good at is knowing when to call it a day.
today was the day. I has hoped to do 1000 miles and get home saturday
if you checked my spot that clearly didn't happen

the day started a little funky when i couldn't find a place to get some air in the tires. then about 50 miles in the rain started. it was nice and light but just kept getting more intense

at a gas stop I tightened things up and kept going. about an hour out of Calgary I started getting cold.  really really cold. then it
started sleeting. then the traffic came to a complete stop. perfect.
I just watched my time ticking away in rhythm with my shivers.

exit get gas and try again. well I got around the mess but visibility was zero. I couldn't see a thing and I'm not sure anyone could see me.  stick a fork in me. four miles to the exit were slow slow slow and I knew I made the right decision. I'll be home Sunday but at least I'll get home

life is good

so my second solo day and it was different   I left Whitehorse about
5:20 am and it was a chilly morning but one thing I really noticed- the smell of the pine trees was intoxicating. just awesome.

most of the traffic all day was northbound and I was struck by the number of motorcycles I saw. last week of was pretty much just me and dean.  today I saw at least a hundred bikes.

some construction and lots of delays including a fire at the Liard River that was getting out of control. I was the only southbound vehicle so got a great view behind the pilot vehicle.  those
firefighters are heroes. as I left the area the troopers shut  down
the road and it was a good call cause the smoke was so thick and the fire jumped the road.

mark it down my friends.  I will never own a street bike without abs again.  today my abs saved me for sure. I had ridden about 600 miles and was settling in to a rhythm. the construction areas were all super well marked.  um. except for one 90 degree turn I came into about 70 only to find out they just spread gravel onto the pavement. without abs I would have had an intimate encounter with the concrete barriers.

right after that I was rewarded with a most excellent rabbit. for the uninitiated a rabbit is someone who might be running a bit hot and
will distract any LEOs   its a beautiful thing. and my rabbit took me
literally to the exit I wanted for my hotel. gots to love it.

so I'm gassed up and ready to go early. 2100 miles to go and I would like to be home saturday night well see how tomorrow goes. border crossing and two big cities might slow me down

Go Lakers!!
